A cause of OCD

Posted in Group:

I wanted to share this knowledge with everyone! It's really amazing!! So I've had OCD for as long as I can remember and when I found out I told my (holistic) doctor who said that there is a known cause of OCD. He said (I believe) that about 50% of OCD cases are caused by an allergic reaction to strep throat! When some people get strep they have an allergic reaction, the antibiotics help it go away, but they don't work like that for the brain. The allergic reaction just kind of sits there and causes damage. But the great thing about that is, if that's what caused it, there's an AWESOME treatment!! Allergy shots! If you get them they can reduce your symptoms 30-70%! This may no be worded the best because I'm not a professional or anything, and a lot of you may already know this, but I just thought that some people may benefit from it because I certainly did! Hope this goes well for you! Stay strong!!

Wow! That is actually really interesting. I wonder what the science behind that is.

Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.

What you may be referring to is something called PANDAS. According to the following site, "PANDAS, is an abbreviation for Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections. The term is used to describe a subset of children who have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and/or tic disorders such as Tourette's Syndrome, and in whom symptoms worsen following strep. infections such as "Strep throat" and Scarlet Fever".
